In Griekenland is het de gewoonte dat iedereen die geen
Orthodoxe naam heeft, zijn of haar naamdag vandaag viert. Dat geldt voor mensen met bv. een oude
mythologische of buitenlandse naam.
In Griekenland kun je iemand tot 40 dagen na zijn of haar
naamdag nog feliciteren.
In Greece it is
tradition that everybody without an Orthodox name celebrates his or her
nameday today. This is the case for example when somebody has an old
mythological or foreign name.
In Greece you
can say congratulations till 40 days after the nameday.

oude rites te onderdrukken, maar ze blijken nog steeds springlevend.
Wanneer deze dag samenvalt met Saturday of the Dead, wordt
dit feest verzet naar de volgende vrijdag en gevierd met de laatste dag van
de Ascension.

the time for fire-walking ceremonies at Lagkadás near Thessaloníki. There
have been attempts to suppress these ancient rites in recent years, but they
appear to be surviving.
In occurrence
with the Saturday of the Dead, this feast is transferred to the preceeding
Friday and celebrated with the Closing Day of the Ascension.
